Chapter Scouting Program
Our scouting division is one of the stonger aspects of Homenetmen Los Angeles chapter. Since the beginning of the chapter, the scouting division has been in full motion. Currently the numbers stand at approximately overall 120 scouts -- 30 boy scouts(Ari), 15 girl scouts(Arenoush), 35 cub scouts(Kailigs), 25 brownies (Ardzvigs) & 15 Gagoughh Tateegs. It is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America and is register there as Troop 923. The scouting division strongly follows the scouting educational values as well as teaches general Armenian history & geography. Scouting has deep roots in natural related activities such as hiking, camping & backpacking. To further develop a stronger bond with nature, the scouts have an annual week long camping trip in summer.
Throughout the year the scouting division holds various functions. During the Christmas season it has become a tradition for the scouts to visit the church to receive Holy Communion, as well as visit the "Ararat" Retirement Home to spread good cheer to the retirees. Another activity which has already become a tradition in the scouting life is the annual chocolate sale during spring time. The funds raised by this event is used to subsidize the costs of future activities and trips. It is noteworthy to mention that throughout the year each group has a variety of fields trips stemming from social to educational.
Regional Scouting Program
Throughout the year the Regional Scouting Council (RSC) plans numerous functions that aid in acquainting with other scouts from different chapters. The RSC planned the 4th regional camp in 2004, at which the scouts had the opportunity to participate. Furthermore, the RSC has organized the St. Mesrob Emblem program, one of the more prestigious emblems that the Boy Scouts of America offers.
